About usWhen was the Company established?The Company began in 1897 as a privately owned electrical machinery workshop. Company founder Hosui Shigemune was a mechanical engineer from Yamaguchi prefecture. The Company’s initial focus was repairing foreign-made electrical equipment and manufacturing switches, but it also worked on creating a domestically produced electric motor. It was established in 1917 as The Meidensha Corporation.
When did the Company go public?The Company was listed on the Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya stock exchanges in 1949. (It is currently listed only on the Tokyo and Nagoya exchanges.)
