Meiden obtains ISO 45001 occupational health and safety certification

2020-03-04

Meidensha Corporation (Meiden) obtained ISO 45001 certification under the Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) from Japan Audit and Certification Organization for Environment and Quality (JACO) on December 25, 2019. A ceremony to bestow the registration certificate was held at Meiden's headquarters on February 27, 2020.

Meiden obtained OHSAS 18001 occupational health and safety certification at its four major production hubs in Japan in 2016. As the certification will be abolished in March 2021, Meiden decided to obtain ISO 45001 certification, which can be integrated with ISO 14001 under the Environmental Management System, a certification already acquired by Meiden.

The latest certification will make it possible for Meiden to prove that it has more integrated and coordinated occupational health and safety activities – from management executives to workers. It is also possible to ensure smooth inter-departmental communication through the common OHSMS framework, documentation and work formats.

Meiden will promote OHSMS to provide a workplace environment that is safe and gives peace of mind to all employees at not only domestic but also overseas business and production hubs.

It is the first international standard under the Occupational Safety and Health Management System issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). It is based on OHSAS 18001, one of the OHSMS standards that aim to prevent labor-related injuries and illnesses and secure a safe and healthy working environment, as well as ILO-OGH 2001, which was issued by the International Labour Organization in 2001.
