Meiden participating in project to renew and maintain Hashimoto City’s water purification plant and intake site

2021-08-18

A group of companies including Meidensha Corporation (Meiden) and represented by Tsukishima Kikai Co., Ltd. has concluded a basic agreement with Hashimoto City, Wakayama Prefecture, on a project to renew aging equipment at the city’s water purification plant and water intake site.

Under the project to maintain the city’s ability to purify water at the plant built more than 40 years ago, the plant’s system 1 water treatment facility will be renewed through the design-build-operate (DBO) method – a project delivery model in which a single contractor is appointed to design and build a project and operate it for a specified period. This project, officially called Project to Renew System 1 Water Treatment Facility at Water Purification Plant and Related Facilities and Maintain Waterworks Facilities of Hashimoto City, also covers water intake facilities. The group will maintain facilities at the water intake site, water purification plant, water distribution reservoirs and pumping stations for a 15-year period.

Meiden will design, manufacture and construct electrical equipment at the water treatment facility and water intake site, along with central monitoring and control facilities.

During the maintenance period, Meiden will be responsible for regularly maintaining electrical equipment it delivered. Meiden will provide operation management tools and asset management support via its cloud computing service, called Aqua Smart Cloud, to help ensure stable water utility operations. Meiden will design, manufacture and construct the facilities by March 2024 and conduct maintenance work for 15 years from April 2024 to March 2039.

Meiden, a company that excels in supporting water infrastructure, will help ensure the supply of safe water by delivering electrical equipment and central monitoring and control facilities, which are essential for water supply and sewerage systems, and providing information and communications technology (ICT) tools, based on its expertise in constructing and developing such systems throughout Japan.
