Meidensha Corporation has developed “M-search,” an app that enables users to learn about factory hazards in a game-like format, with the aim of preventing industrial accidents and improving employees’ sensitivity to danger. Meidensha will make the app accessible to all employees from their company PCs, providing a new safety education opportunity that allows them to learn about safety issues anytime, regardless of job category or location.

According to Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare data on industrial accidents in 2025, annual deaths from industrial accidents across all industries totaled 700, marking a new record low. However, the number of cases involving sick leave of four days or longer, including cases in which workers later died, reached 135,333, remaining at a high level.

Meidensha has implemented various programs to enhance safety awareness, including the operation of the Safety Promotion Center, which offers practical training using a hands-on safety experience truck, as well as initiatives for learning from past industrial accidents that occurred within the company. However, a challenge remained: enabling employees, regardless of job category or location, to learn about safety at any time so that they could better identify potential hazards on their own.

Against this backdrop, Meidensha offers M-search, a danger-sensitivity enhancement app it developed to allow employees to access safety training through their company PCs and search for potential hazards in a game-like format. Development of the app was entrusted to Jhoson Documents Inc., a company that develops online education and training systems for internal corporate use. (The company is headquartered in Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture, and is led by President Hirotada Fujisawa). Development was carried out under the supervision of the OHS Planning & Promotion Section of Meidensha’s Production Engineering and Management Group.

The educational app trains users to find and identify hazardous locations in a virtual factory modeled after an actual Meidensha manufacturing workplace, within a 10-minute time limit. The hazards users encounter include scattered materials, tasks requiring them to lean out from a stepladder, obstacles in passageways, and other situations that can occur in actual workplaces. When users identify a hazardous location, they are asked questions about safety knowledge and countermeasures related to that hazard.

The app includes 50 types of hazardous locations, five of which are randomly selected for each play session. Rather than merely asking users to identify dangers, the app also includes segments where they can confirm why each situation is dangerous and what countermeasures are necessary. Through these features, the app helps every employee gain practical knowledge about potential risks associated with their routine work and take appropriate action.

Meidensha will further cultivate a safety culture across the entire Meiden Group by expanding the app’s game stages and educational themes based on usage data and employee feedback.
